Wine & Viticulture Research
The University of Melbourne has a long history of research activities related to viticulture and wine production dating from the 1890s at the Dookie campus. In more recent times the Dookie Vineyard was an important trial winery site for the CSIRO developed Tarrango wine grape variety. The Dookie vineyard and winery are used extensively in research.
Research based qualifications are available at Masters and Doctor of Philosophy level and are based around independent projects,
Current projects underway are:
- Impact of irrigation on red grape quality
- An Australian definition of terroir
- Impact of climate changte on the Australian wine industry
- Yield versus quality relationships in Cabernet Sauvignon - a DPI GWRDC project
